1 Month, 1 Week
So here we are, five weeks in. Things being the way they are I wound up with less than my normal dose. I left a msg for my doctor, but things being the way they are again, I haven’t heard from her yet. No biggie.  I am very happy to report that the part of my body that is most difficult to clear is almost clear. There are still stubborn spots, and there always will be, but I’m feeling...

One Month In: Methotrexate
So one month in, things are looking up. I can tell where things have improved. Very much improved.  I’m going to maintain this dose for another two weeks, then, doctor permitting, bump it up from 15 mg to 20 mg.  Side effects so far that I’ve been noticing/feeling - headache here and there, a persistent nonproductive cough, and am I losing hair? Great. Someone said to me,...

Week 3
So I goofed up on my scheduling and decided to post when I have time. Things have been busy all around, but laundry’s done, chicken pot pie for dindin was a success, and I have a few minutes to do my thang. I took 6 tabbies of that awesome methotrexate on Wednesday, so that’s 15 mg of action coursing through my system. I got the nod to proceed with upping the dose after my labs...

grapesally asked: I've used methotrexate for a really long time and it was amazing for me! I never had any of the problems associated with it apart from an occasional bloody nose. This was a few years ago, since then I've switched to Enbrel and now to Stelara. Good luck and clear skin!!!!

Dose 2: Methotrexate
Decided to just call it Dose instead of Day.  Anyway, I went to Kaiser and got the labs done yesterday. Cha-ching, became mayor of the lab. Was simultaneously sad and a bit thrilled to have the honor, but face it, who’s going to say “holler at me, I’m in the lab.” We’re not there to winky wink. We’re there because our health stinky stinks. My labs came back...

Day 1: Methotrexate
So today I started my test dose of methotrexate, the drug the pharmacist freaked out on me over . why are you on this drug?! it’s a cancer drug! - pharmacist* Yah, it’s hardcore stuff, but it’s been used for years with psoriasis, and, well, it’s time to try something new. This drug I’ve been dancing around for a few years now - I didn’t want to take it...

Way to be sensitive, bro.
Pharmacist: *reviewing my medication* What are you taking this for? This is a cancer drug*!
Me: Not for cancer. I have psoriasis.
Pharmacist: *wiping brow* Well, wow. It is used for other things, but it's primarily a cancer drug.
Me: :-|
*I do not, for the record, have cancer. Don't freak out on me, internet.

Is this thing on?
I realize now, after many years of blogging, that writing is just as much about discipline as it is about sitting there and coming up with something you want to write about. It used to be, nightly, I would crank out something worth sharing (or not worth it, I’ll admit it). Now, it’s monthly, if that. I acknowledge that it’s largely been my fault for not prioritizing my writing....

Ten Years Ago
Arguing with God and Winning  I went to church today, during my lunch hour, and sat in a pew not too far from the front of the altar. I stared up at the cross, noticed the red draping hanging behind it. Jesus’ eyes stand out better that way, I suppose. I took a deep breath, and what happened next, I can only say was not only unexpected, it was a date.  “So, what do you make of this?” I asked,...

Feathery Helper
The other day, I came home with the Little Family after an outing. A cat crossed in front of us (a calico chap) who looked quite guilty. Odd. We usually don’t run into cats in our front yard, although they meander through our weedy backyard from time to time. As we approached our front door, we found a scattering of feathers on our front door. And the pigeon that they belonged to snuggled...

The Knowledge Keepers and the Knowledge Sharers
Over the last few weeks, I’ve been running Geek Badge class for some colleagues where I work. The Geek Badge class had five segments: Twitter, iMovie, Blogging, Google Maps, and Wikis. Pretty easy stuff, but stuff that I use on the regular with work and personal life. I put together a quick curriculum, asked some peeps if they were into it, and then started away. I don’t claim to be an expert…I...

dining out.
I happen to live in one of the best food places in the world. I love going out with the little family, consuming impossibly good things, and then, huddled over our empty dishes, whispering over whether or not we can accomplish this dish at home (Husbandido does a good job replicating things. I do a good job eating them. That’s it.) From time to time we’ll find a place that gives us...

A Baby Falls Out of Bed
Bambina: *thud* hitting floor
Husbandido: OMG. Did she just fall out of the bed?
Me: Oh shit, she just did.
Bambina: *snoring*
Husbandido: Wait, she's still sleeping?
Me: Totally. *lifting her back into bed*
Husbandido: That's awesome.

Attitude is a Choice
I found myself at the dermatologist’s office the other day. I have been dealing with a mini flare up, and it’s starting to get on my nerves. I was really excited to start a new drug, Stelara, but I was a little leery that safety and efficacy wasn’t tested beyond two years. Hello, that’s a little scary. So I’m sitting in my blue paper gown and we’re talking...

The Girl Who Stole The Eiffel Tower: Don't do it! →
kendalinwonderland: So… new lesson learned this weekend. Do NOT miss the last metro and do NOT walk across Paris in your bare feet at 3AM. Sounds pretty obvious. I got invited to a party over near the Eiffel Tower and knowing that there would be a pool, I really had to check this out. I went, and was one of the…

Breaking Things
I wake up every morning, give thanks, and have my breakfast with Bambina. We chat about the day to be, and this is my routine.  I drive away from the house with a wave and a horn toot to a smiling little face, and turn away down the hill. And as I turned, I saw a garbage truck pause in the middle of the road. Not wanting to start a cuss fest this early, I wait patiently to safely pass. I notice...
